XPO Logistics

XPO Logistics Ltd have been providing bespoke dedicated timber transport services to the national builders merchant chain Jewsons (now part of the STARK Group) since 2019.

STARK Group is a leading business-to-business distributor of heavy building materials for the construction industry in Europe. XPO Logistics delivers the timber packs from three manufacturing locations to the 600 Jewson branches nationwide using a fleet of 44T tractor and trailer vehicles.

In 2023 we delivered over 300,000 cubic metres of timber to that branch network. XPO’s strategic approach to improving our health and safety performance is our “Road To Zero” program.

As part of our 2023 Road To Zero plan we developed an initiative called “Take 5”.

The fundamental “Aim” was to increase awareness of Health and Safety responsibilities and engage with our driver colleagues through the Take 5 philosophy.

The program covered the following areas of focus. •Accident Reduction •Winter Driving •Bridge Strike Prevention •Bsafe, Care Cards and Safety Conversations The Take 5 initiative has driven some very encouraging improvements in the safety metrics in the first year 2023.

The initiative was also recognised internally within XPO as one of the finalists of the XPO European “Drive Innovation Awards”.
