Currys Home Deliveries and Installation RIDDOR Reduction.
Currys delivers thousands of large, heavy products to customers successfully each week, but occasionally challenging deliveries can go wrong, and colleagues can get injured.
Although our historic Reporting of Incidents, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) performance has been reasonable we wanted to further improve it as we’re passionate about looking after colleagues.
In 2023 - 2024 we targeted a 20% reduction in RIDDORs across our Home Delivery network compared to the previous year.
Manual handling and tail lift-related injuries were a particular area of focus since our delivery and installation teams handle diverse types of goods from light tumble driers to heavy American-style fridge freezers and TVs ranging in sizes from 55” to enormous 97”+. Key activities included a full revamp of our risk assessments and associated documents, bringing these to life through digital interaction.
Collaborating with operational management teams to allocate refresher training for all colleagues.
And liaising with our L&D department to incorporate these assessments into the Company Induction. We also trialled different types of delivery vehicles and manual handling equipment to help the unloading and carrying activities resulting in a far safer method that crews have adopted positively.
This resulted in a 32% reduction in RIDDORs!
