The National Robotarium
The National Robotarium is a world-leading centre for robotics and artificial intelligence.
Officially opened in September 2022, the facility is home to pioneering research, testing and development of groundbreaking robotic solutions that address real-world problems making our work, and lives, safer, healthier and more productive.
Its team of robotic and enterprise experts work directly with industry partners to understand their challenges and how robotics, AI and automated systems can solve them.
The team are currently developing technologies for sectors including healthcare, social care, offshore energy, construction, fisheries and agriculture, all underpinned by a legacy of scientific expertise by researchers from its partner institutions, Heriot-Watt University and The University of Edinburgh.
The facility fosters the teaching and development of the next generation of roboticists, producing highly-skilled graduates who are trained to conduct world-leading research with a market focus, and developing programmes to equip the current and future workforce with robotics, data and programming skills.
It also provides an incubation space for start-up technology companies and is currently at capacity with four ‘industry residents’ utilising the facility’s labs, office spaces, equipment, and engineering expertise to develop their ideas, attract inward investment, and shape the future of robotics.
