Tap-and-go for Transport for Wales with Unicard Ticketing Hub
We worked with Transport for Wales (TfW) to deliver an EMV Account-Based Ticketing (ABT) solution.
The cEMV solution had to be built to manage over 30 million customer journeys a year by 2025 and continue to support above-target customer growth for rail travel.
It also needed to be integrated with existing mobile apps and websites, transitioning these into a comprehensive multi-modal service proposition for travel on their services by using a bank card to tap on and tap off public transport.
This deployment was the first of its kind anywhere in the UK outside of London.
For passengers, the solution provides truly seamless travel and ease of use; no queuing for tickets, remembering a travel card or changing their ticket if plans change.
They can simply use their bank card or mobile wallet to catch a train.
Our solution means TfW can be confident that it is ready to handle any future changes in suppliers, standards, tokens, or passenger behavior, as Ticketing Hub is built to be a multi-reader, multi-operator, multi-modal, multi-acquirer, and multi-token solution.
If necessary, the system can be extended to support contactless payments across other modes of transport, such as trams and buses.
