Sunswap Endurance

Sunswap is the manufacturer of Endurance, a groundbreaking first-of-its-kind system for the decarbonisation of refrigerated transport. The challenge Endurance helps operators, retailers and manufacturers to overcome is with traditional diesel-powered transport refrigeration units (TRUs) – these are significant polluters, emitting up to 910,000 tonnes CO2e/year and burning up to 364 million litres/year at a cost of nearly half a billion to operators. Endurance, is a battery and solar-powered TRU that eliminates diesel usage while matching or exceeding the performance of traditional units.

Key features include a rooftop solar array, modular customisable batteries, predictive maintenance and performance and range that can match current refrigeration systems.

These innovations result in a refrigeration unit with zero tailpipe emissions, up to 90% reduction in operational costs, and up to 35% reduced total cost of ownership compared to diesel. The solar integration is particularly noteworthy as it can provide around 4/5th of the unit’s energy needs for chilled routes throughout the year, with near-total energy supply during spring and summer. Sunswap’s journey from prototype to market-ready product in just four years is marked by collaboration with industry leaders through 25 customer trials and 11 major customers and counting, including DFDS, TIP Group and Samworth Brothers.
