The Bradford clean air zone (CAZ) is the second largest road user charging scheme in the UK.

It was launched by Bradford Council on the 26th September 2022, and aims to improve air quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance public health, particularly in deprived areas.

Since its launch, it has led to significant reductions in nitrogen dioxide levels and over 200,000 tons of CO2e.

Health benefits include fewer respiratory and cardiovascular issues, as well as NHS savings.

The CAZ also spurred clean growth through investments in electric buses, hydrogen production, and expanded EV infrastructure, while supporting businesses with grants and exemptions.

Public support is high, and the project has been recognized for its effective and innovative implementation.
