In March 2023, approval was given to convert the existing Makro Cash & Carry at Fareham, Hampshire into a fully functionable Distribution Centre.

Working to a challenging deadline for such a major scale project, work began In April with the first outbound delivery scheduled for late November, only seven months later.

During that period, the plan developed from an initial sketch into a major construction project.

A formal planning application was lodged and detailed designs were completed to schedule.

Contractors were selected, appointed and initial orders processed ahead of formal consent to ensure that the ambitious target launch date could be achieved. Due to the pace of the project, the initial tendering and design works were completed around an on-site team at the Cash & Carry who had received little information about the final plans.

Indeed, works commenced whilst the site continued to trade.

The site closed its doors to customers on the 15th of July and after two weeks of stripping out all residual stock, it was handed over to allow full construction to proceed on Monday 31st July.

Following 17 highly intensive weeks of construction, the first delivery was made on Thursday 28th November.
