Babcock International Group Plc. – Devonport Logistics Team

The Babcock Logistics team at Devonport Royal Dockyard are one year into a transformational journey to meet changing operational and customer demands.

Through the creation of the Logistics 5 year strategy, it was identified that People Development lies at the heart of the department’s ability to achieve their strategic objectives.

With a team of 220 members, a structured approach to People Development needed to be taken to achieve consistency and success across the department.

The Logistics Transformation team have spent 12 months creating and implementing a suite of People Development tools, including: team wide development support tools, leadership skills development and industrial skills development training.

The work undertaken by the team saw the Logistics department at Devonport be the second organisation nationally to successfully achieve Advanced Capability Recognition with CILT (UK) in October 2023.

To achieve Advanced Capability, the Logistics team evidenced capabilities such as a continuous improvement ethos, as well as creating development programmes that improve technical skills and core workplace competencies. The Devonport Logistics team are now focussing on embedding the Logistics strategy into Business As Usual, and embracing their partnership with CILT(UK) to enhance training opportunities for team members and to keep abreast of industry best practice.
