Award: CiTTi Awards

Award Name: The Transport Inclusivity and Accessibility Award

Company: Solent Transport

As part of its Future Transport Zone program, Solent Transport is delivering the UK’s largest Mobility Credits trial across four local authorities in southern England.

The trial aims to provide participants from low-income households with improved access to healthcare, employment, education, and social outcomes.

760 participants have been recruited to participate from over 3000 eligible residents in Southampton, Portsmouth, Havant, and the Isle of Wight who are aged under 30 and in receipt of Council Tax Support.

Participants receive £50 of travel credit each month for 12 months which is exclusively for purchases available in the Breeze Mobility as a Service app – a journey planning and transport ticketing app - which includes bus, rail, ferry, and micromobility services.

Overall, nearly 50% of participants have a physical or mental health condition, and by definition, all participants are from low-income households in order to be eligible for Council Tax Support.

The trial is using innovative technology to provide travel support to those which need it the most.

Now at its midway point, survey feedback from participants is positive, with 81% of participants rating their experience of participation in the trial so far as ‘excellent’.
