Sky
Following the product launch of Sky Glass in 2021, the primary freight movements from the Final Assembly factory in Poland to the UK DC were served via a range of transport modes: road freight, multi-modal rail, and short sea.
The Sky Group Supply Chain team recognised there was an opportunity to provide a more sustainable solution for Sky Glass and partnered with DHL's Central and Eastern Europe transport team to explore options.
The proposal selected focuses on the introduction of electric HGVs and multi-modal electrified rail to move goods from Poland to the UK and to Italy.
The initial 90km movement of goods in Poland from Gorzow to Poznan utilises a fleet of Volvo EV HGVs pulling innovative ‘Pocket Trailers’.
On arrival at a rail head in Poznan, the trailers are lifted directly on to an electrified rail service for onwards transit to Rotterdam and then via ferry to the UK and delivery to the UK distribution centre in Milton Keynes.
This partnership between Sky and DHL has enabled a reduction of 34,000 tonnes of CO2 and removes 1,350 truck movements via road.
