North Central London Integrated Care System
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, North Central London Integrated Care System (NCL ICS) developed a supply chain vision focusing on ensuring supply chain visibility and resilience for PPE and clinical/general supplies.
The specific objectives are to streamline end-to-end processes in order to free up valuable clinical time to care, remove unnecessary workarounds, and ensure availability of PPE and clinical/general supplies; to create and embed an organisational infrastructure that maximises materials management involvement in the supply chain and time with clinical teams, thereby delivering a high quality, value driven customer service; to rationalise and integrate systems and physical space, with PPE and clinical/general supplies delivered just in time based on demand; and to provide high-quality instant supply chain data that enables full visibility, effective decision making, and identification of savings opportunities.
In line with this, NCL Supply Chain teams have collaborated to deliver a new PPE and NHS Supply Chain (NHSSC) distribution model via a newly established distribution hub.
Over 1.8 billion items have been moved since inception and sustainability benefits achieved.
They have also collaborated to develop a roadmap for implementation of Inventory Management Solution (IMS) and Scan4Safety (S4S), with over 1.5 million items scanned so far across 130,000 procedures.
