Modular Interfaces adapting software to End Users

Year: 2024

Award: Robotics & Automation Awards

Award Name: The Innovative Use of Software & IT Award

Company: Brandt, Nordbo Robotics

The software challenges faced by Nordbo Robotics in the creation of its mimic software were twofold.

The first step was creating a method where an end user’s movements could be recorded and transferred into a robot.

The second challenge was how can this type of software be presented in a way where a user with no prior robotics or programming experience could easily adopt this technology into their workflow.

By placing equal focus on not only the technology and the user experience Nordbo Robotics was able to develop a platform that allows users to integrate powerful robotic solutions into their processes in a fast, easy and intuitive fashion. Brandt Powder Coating was able to integrate Mimic technology into their processes in a way that allowed them to utilize the experience of their skilled powder coating technicians.

These technicians, that previously could spend many hours in uncomfortable environmental suits manipulating heavy paint guns, now spend only a fraction of their time in these conditions.

Once they’ve demonstrated the process for the robot, they can focus on more value generating activities while the robot completes the repetitive tasks.
