Johnson & Johnson – Digital Value Chain
Johnson & Johnson has created and integrated digital supply chain maps with digital twin technology to enable scenario-based supply chain modeling.
The strategic initiative, known internally as “Digital Value Chain,” helped improve supply planning practices across several pharmaceutical products.
The digital platform can produce multiple possible scenarios simultaneously.
The potential outcomes are based on inputs from global supply planners to cross-check supply chain readiness against customer needs, production line capacity, inventory, alternate sourcing plants and modes of transport, and fulfillment capabilities.
Prior to Digital Value Chain, J&J was creating supply chain maps in static solutions like PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio.
Planners were trying to do business modeling with legacy tools and disconnected methods.
The Digital Value Chain can assess various design options for product flows and standards, and associated trade-offs.
For each design option, holistic future supply chain performance scorecards are created, which empower the company to make informed decisions from the outset.
By asking “what if”, J&J is deciding what’s next.
