Hanbury Strategy
Self-driving vehicles will transform the future of transport, creating a safer, smarter, and more sustainable system.
To achieve this future, it is essential to not only build the technology but to test it in the commercial environments it will have the most impact.
This is why Wayve, a British start-up pioneering an AI-centric approach to self-driving technology, has partnered with the UK’s second-largest online supermarket Asda to test the use of self-driving vehicles in grocery delivery.
In April the two companies embarked on the UK’s largest self-driving grocery delivery trial, reaching 403,480 residents across 189,500 households in London.
During the 12-month trial, Asda Park Royal customers can place their next-day delivery orders online and be randomly selected to have their order delivered in a Wayve self-driving vehicle.
Wayve’s unique AI-based system removes the need for expensive sensor stacks and HD maps.
Wayve’s technology, trained on data and AI, learns and adapts its ’driving intelligence’ to any city or vehicle type.
Trials like this one mean businesses like Asda can explore the commercial benefits of self-driving technology as it is being developed.
This collaboration also provides Wayve with the commercial learnings needed to bring self-driving technology to our roads.
