As part of a strategic review in 2021, a number of technology improvement projects were introduced to transform the NDC and to bring it into a position of best practice industry standards from a logistical perspective. It was clear that whilst the business was on one ERP system, Microsoft D365, many of its NDC processes were undertaken using paper.
This resulted in a poor accuracy, given the throughput volume and effectively every process for every line, had to be manually recorded and then entered onto D365.
The number of errors through this manual process resulted in an extremely poor pick fail rate of 19%.
This in turn caused challenges in the store through disappointing customers as inventory was found to be unavailable in the DC.
It was clear that to protect and support sales, that a new way of working was required.
A team consisting of key stakeholders across the business including Logistics, IT, Retail, Buying, Merchandising and Finance, was pulled together to evaluate a WMS and to determine which one was the best fit for Fenwick.
