DigiHaul
DigiHaul’s Backhaul Matching tool is an innovative technology developed by the Digital Freight Business to address sustainability and efficiency challenges in the logistics industry.
The tool aims to reduce CO2 emissions and transportation costs by optimising routes and minimising empty miles for hauliers.
Working in collaboration with a leading British retailer with ambitious emission reduction targets, DigiHaul deployed their Data and Technology teams to create a tool that uses advanced machine learning data modeling to match shipments based on specific attributes such as vehicle types, build-up, geographical location, and delivery windows.
This process aims to eliminate the need for hauliers to return empty after deliveries, reducing emissions and costs.
The tool identified annual savings of 700,000 empty kilometres, equivalent to £6.5 million in cost savings over five years.
DigiHaul’s technology not only benefits customers and the retailer but also contributes to reducing emissions for the entire transport industry, making it a significant step towards combating climate change.
The Backhaul Matching tool showcases the potential for tangible emissions reduction, highlighting that immediate impacts can be achieved without waiting for electric vehicles.
