DFDS Logistics
With rising food prices and soaring energy costs taking its toll on the UK economy, the acute shortage of truck drivers was putting the UK’s supply chain under enormous pressure.
Added to this the post-Brexit world and a global pandemic, Marilia Pinto, Transport Manager at DFDS’ in house haulier, DLS, saw an opportunity to put drivers at the centre of the company’s business.
This strategy focused on staff retention and created an environment that showed its drivers that they were valued, and it increased the efficiency of its fleet.
Pinto began by analysing current shift patterns and truck efficiencies.
From this, she presented a business case to DFDS’ Operations Director on how simple and well rolled-out changes could have a dramatic impact on results.
These results have been phenomenal; efficiency wise it has trucks that are always running, and it has increased its driver headcount from 21 to 45.
