Camden’s Micromobility Parking Hubs

Year: 2024

Award: CiTTi Awards

Award Name: The Micromobility Award

Company: London Borough of Camden, ITP, Integrated Transport Planning

Camden’s Micromobility Parking Hubs provide a borough-wide network of 207 dedicated parking facilities for shared bikes and e-scooters that currently support over 350,000 monthly trips.

83% of Parking Hubs are located on-carriageway and the network is set to be expanded to 280 Parking Hubs by the end of 2025. The Micromobility Parking Hub network has been instrumental in enabling shared micromobility to grow sustainably from 200 free-floating vehicles in 2019/20 to around 3,000 vehicles today whilst managing the challenges of inappropriate footway parking that were prevalent under the preceding scheme.

While the density of the parking network varies throughout Camden, most residents are within a 2-minute walk time of a Parking Hub, ensuring that access to the network remains highly convenient. Camden’s scheme has demonstrated that parking regulation can enhance the viability of a micromobility scheme where it is appropriate and where the needs of all stakeholders have been taken on board.

The scheme represents best practice in the design and management of shared micromobility in London and an exemplar in public-private sector collaboration between the Council and operators.

Through the scheme, Camden has pioneered shared micromobility in London providing a pathway to success for other boroughs to follow.
