Ambient IoT Food Safety Initiative

To modernize food safety ahead of upcoming FDA regulation, in May 2024, Wiliot introduced its new Ambient Food Safety initiative, in partnership with iFoodDS and Trustwell.

The initiative is designed to create completely transparent and traceable food supply chains – soon required for FSMA 204 compliance – through the adoption of ambient Internet of Things (IoT) technology.

This new initiative unites technology companies, standards organizations, and food brands around the shared vision that the ambient IoT is the most effective, scalable, and low-labor approach to achieving safer, more sustainable, and completely transparent food supply chains.

Ambient IoT is a battery-free wireless technology that is being incorporated in multiple wireless standards – including Bluetooth, 5G Advanced, 6G, and Wi-Fi 8 – allowing food products to be connected to the internet and power of AI at a fraction of the cost of legacy technologies. Wiliot has partnered with food industry leaders iFoodDS and Trustwell to incorporate its ambient IoT data and technology into both company’s safety and compliance platforms.

In addition to tracking food products using QR codes, advance shipping notices, and electronic documentation, these platforms can now track products using Wiliot’s ambient IoT data, provided by their IoT Pixels.
