Aerobotix and FerRobotics develop revolutionary robotic tool for precision application of masking tape on aircraft

AEROBOTIX AND FERROBOTICS DEVELOP REVOLUTIONARY ROBOTIC TOOL FOR PRECISION APPLICATION OF MASKING TAPE ON AIRCRAFT Aerobotix (www.aerobotix.net) and FerRobotics (www.ferrobotics.com) are two leading robotics companies based in the U.S.

and Austria respectively.

The companies have jointly launched the Active Taping Kit (ATK), an innovative new robotic solution for the aerospace industry. Aerobotix and FerRobotics partnered on the ATK in response to industry demand for an automated tool for precision application of masking tape. Customer demand for masking-tape automation was always there, but until now, the technology wasn’t.

The ATK solution, which uses a combination of FerRobotics and Aerobotix technologies, enables a robot to use varying force when applying masking tape to an aircraft. The ATK has the smarts and sensitivity to apply perfectly straight tape lines with exact repeatability, while not damaging high-value parts. Funding for this international project was provided by the U.S.

Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).

The product was developed and commercially launched between 2021 and 2023. In late 2022, the ATK was honored as one of only five projects to be nominated for the Econovius, a special prize under the Austrian National Innovation Award.
